Born of celestial harmonies and the creative euphoria of L.A.'s Laurel Canyon scene in 1968, supergroup Crosby, Stills & Nash united David Crosby (late of The Byrds), Graham Nash (singer for British pop stars The Hollies) and Stephen Stills (formerly of Buffalo Springfield). Their first, self-titled album, released in 1969, was a blockbuster, and by the time they performed at Woodstock they'd been joined by Neil Young, who'd also been in Buffalo Springfield and now had a solo career. They've played, together and individually, in various configurations ever since, achieving brilliant high points despite catastrophic problems ranging from personality conflicts to Crosby's legal and drug problems in the '80s. They remain a major draw on their periodic reunion tours.
