We're spotlighting one of the stars of today's Thursday Artist Portrait, Billy Joel this morning. It's his early 1976 release, Turnstiles, the first BJ album to utilize members of his touring band(drummer Liberty DeVitto, bassist Doug Stegmeyer and guitarist Russell Javors) in the studio.

Billy also won the right to produce this record at a time when that wasn't exactly encouraged! Many of Turnstiles songs are among the best NYC inspired songs that he ever wrote..."New York State Of Mind", "Miami 2017(seen the lights go out on Broadway)" and "Say Goodbye To Hollywood", the latter said to be inspired by Ronnie Spector of Ronettes' fame(she would eventually cover this one). We listened to Side 1 this time.
