Switchin' on the Electric Light Orchestra
Posted:Thursday, 12/06/2012 at 03:12am by Greg Easterling
We hit the actual midpoint of our week with music from the Electric Light Orchestra Wednesday morning.

It was Out Of The Blue, their massive two record set which came out in late 1977. Jeff Lynne was the force behind ELO, writing all the music and lyrics while also producing. And oh yes, he sang the lead vocals and played most of the guitar parts on the album including the leads. Yet, he still needed others to complete the picture including a rhythm section anchored by Bev Bevan, keyboards and a several string players.

There was a lot here...pop with dance overtones, harder rockin' tracks, echoes of Phil Spector's Wall of Sound and girl group records plus some Beatlesque touches. We tracked Side 1 with "Turn To Stone" and "Sweet Talkin' Woman".
