Neil: Solo for the First Time
Posted:Thursday, 01/03/2013 at 03:01am by 0
This morning we featured Neil Young's self titled solo debut, released in early 1969 as we spotlight his music today on The Drive's Thursday Artist Portrait.

This was the first we'd heard from Neil since his departure from Buffalo Springfield although not many outside Los Angeles knew much about either Neil or Buffalo Springfield. In retrospect, it's hard to remember an era when Neil's name was not a household word. As a result though, Young's first solo effort barely made a ripple at the time and failed to make the Billboard chart although there are a number of fine songs here. We listened to Side 1 this time; highlights included "The Loner" and "The Old Laughing Lady".
