A Birthday for Daltrey
Posted:Friday, 03/01/2013 at 03:03am by 0
It's Roger Daltrey's birthday here on the first day of March, 2013. We celebrated with a side of music from The Who, the legendary band that Roger co-founded and to which he's given voice for decades now.

This morning we featured Face Dances from 1981, the Who's first studio album after Keith Moon's untimely passing several years earlier. Former Faces drummer Kenny Jones took over on drums while the rest of the band carried on. In many respects it was awkward era. Permanently deprived of Moon's talents, the Who faced challenges from a new generation of punk-inspired bands who were publicly critical of the more successful classic rock era groups. And on top of everything else, Pete Townshend was descending into a very unstable time in his personal life.

Nevertheless, Face Dances hit the Top 5 on the Billboard Album chart, selling well and spawning radio airplay for "You Better You Bet" and "Another Tricky Day". We heard the former as we tracked Side 1 today.
