John Mellencamp, Male Cougar

We began our new week of Overnight Album Sides this morning with John Mellencamp before he was actually allowed to use his real name. Amazing but true!

The album entitled "John Cougar" came out in the summer of 1979 and was John's fourth record although he was still very much an unknown at that point. This album included two songs from John's previous record which had gone unreleased in the United States. Fortunately one of those songs was "I Need A Lover" which became a hit in the U.S. and also in Australia. Big time success was still a few years away for Mellencamp. That would eventually happen in 1982 after the release of "American Fool". This morning we put the needle down on Side 2 of "John Cougar".
