Jimi At Monterey

We dug deeper into our new week of overnight vinyl yesterday featuring Jimi Hendrix and the original Experience with Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell. It was Live At Monterey, a vinyl record released in 2007(also on cd)by the Experience Hendrix reissue label. Back in the day, Warner Brothers issued some of the tracks from this album on one side of an LP with Monterey recordings by Otis Redding on the flip.

This time it was a whole album of Hendrix performances recorded at the historic Monterey International Pop Festival, June 16-18, 1967. It's the concert that largely introduced Jimi to the American audience, beginning the most public part of his short but influential career.

We listened to Side 2 including classics "The Wind Cries Mary" and "Purple Haze" plus a great jam on The Troggs' "Wild Thing".
