Finishing With Miller's First
Posted:Friday, 04/12/2013 at 03:04am by 0
We completed our week of overnight album sides this morning with Steve Miller, the musical vagabond who put out his first band album in 1968. It was entitled Children Of The Future, recorded in London with famed producer Glyn Johns.

Steve was loosely associated with the San Francisco Sound having moved out to the West Coast and the psychedelic tendencies of the title track certainly reinforces that impression. But Miller was well-traveled geographically, soaking up musical influences in Texas, Madison, Wisconsin and also right here in Chicago where he helped to manage a blues club in Old Town. Miller's band also included longtime friend Boz Scaggs at this point.

As a matter of fact, Side 2 begins with two of Boz's songs, "Baby's Callin' Me Home" and "Steppin' Stone"; it ends later with a double shot of Chicago style blues, "Fanny Mae" and "Key To The Highway".
