Tommy's Birthday
Posted:Wednesday, 09/11/2013 at 04:09am by Greg Easterling
Today is the birthday of Tommy Shaw, longtime member of Styx and vital cog in their musical machine since the mid-Seventies. Not an original, Tommy's songwriting skills really added to the Styx sound over the years, supplying some of the harder rocking cuts that complimented Dennis DeYoung's more grandiose efforts. Tommy's first record with Styx was Crystal Ball and Styx immediately used his song as the title track. Today we pulled out Pieces of Eight from 1978; Side 2 contains two essential Shaw/Styx songs, "Blue Collar Man", and "Renegade" and that's the side we tracked this morning.
