The Drive's Live at 5 for the week of August 1-5, 2011

Monday, August 1: Paul McCartney
Second & final show at Wrigley. We'll play a tune from the 4-song, 13:32 EP called Amoeba's Secret. Recorded in 2007 during a secret performance at Amoeba Music in Hollywood, this was Paul's first-ever in-store performance. Originally available only on vinyl, you can get it now on CD & download.

Tuesday, August 2: The Allman Brothers band
We have Wolfgang's Vault performances from both coasts: NYC's Fillmore East in '71 & San Francisco's Winterland in '73. The Winterland selection is Ramblin' Man, a smash hit single the Allmans rarely performed. Why? As per Dickie Betts, the song's author, because it was a smash hit single!

Wednesday, August 3: The Rolling Stones
No word yet on a 50th (!) anniversary Stones tour for next year. While you wait for the Drive to bring any pertinent news on that to ya, enjoy Stones' stagework from 1969 and some 20 years later Live @ 5.

Thursday, August 4: Steve Miller
Steve Miller Band in concert tonight at the Chicago Theatre. Great feature on Steve in the August Mojo, with his friend Paul Mc Cartney on the cover. Inside, Miller tells the tale of watching John & Paul doing vocals for Get Back and Don't Let Me Down in the same London Olympic Studio complex he was working in back in '69. The next night a Beatles session failed to materialize so Paul wandered down the hall to where Miller was recording and played bass, drums & sang on the song My Dark Hour, from Miller's third album, Brave New world. Paul's pseudonymn in the credits was "Paul Ramon."

Friday, August 5: Yes
It's the voice of countless Yes classics, Jon Anderson, performing solo tonight at The Arcada Theatre in St. Charles. Jon will sing Yes & solo material. Wonder if he'll do Our National Anthem, which is now Jon's, too? Jon became a U.S. citizen in 2009 and lives in central California (San Arroyo).
