The Drive's Live at 5 for the week of August 22-26, 2011

Monday, August 22: George Thorogood
George's latest album is a tribute to Chess Records, as he covers their artists, such as Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley & Chuck Berry; the title is the address, 2120 S. Michigan Avenue. Thorogood is no Georgie-come-lately on the subject: "I remember as a teenager reading about Mick Jagger meeting Keith Richards on a train. Jagger had a Chuck Berry record, and he said he write to Chess Records and got a catalog sent to him. Just out of curiosity I took out one of my Chess records, got the address and wrote them. They sent me a catalog of the complete Chess library, and I bought every single one of them I could possibly get."

Tuesday, August 23: Fleetwood Mac
Two Stevie Nicks Mac tunes as she serenades at the Rosemont
Theatre on this night. On her August 9th gig at Red Rocks/ Denver, Colorado, she performed, along with tunes from her latest solo album, In Your Dreams, these classics: Stand Back, Dreams, Gold Dust Woman, Rhiannon, Leather & Lace and Edge of 17.

Wednesday, August 24: The Who
While Roger Daltrey is touring Tommy (10/7, the Venue @ Horseshoe Casino), Pete Townshend has been readying Quadrophenia, the band's other rock opera, for a November 15th box set release, chock full o' extras. The Who will tour Quadrophenia in 2012 and, perhaps the best news of all is this from tinnitus ravaged Pete Townshend, "My hearing is actually getting better." And, oh yeah, happy birthday Keith Moon (R.I.P.).

Thursday, August 25: Elton John
Dig Vegas? Dig Elton? Road Trip! Air travel works, too. Elton John's "Million Dollar Piano" show (with full band) sets up for 16 shows at The Colloseum at Caesar's Palace from 9/28 through 10/23. Then it's off to less hedonistic locations such as Lithuania, Russia & the Ukraine.

Friday, August 26: Chicago
It's Chicago at Ravinia both Sunday & Saturday In The (Highland) Park, too! Available now to pre-order (10/4 release) is Chicago XXXIII - O Christmas Tree. Their website describes it thusly: "14 bona-fide smash hit holiday favorites all Chicagoized in classic form."

Make me smile,

Bobby Skafish
