cindy said... my sis had all the beatles albums and GAVE them away. i remember listening to wkhj in LA , hearing lucy in the sky. my sis knew the true meaning but told me it was about a lady who likes jewelry!

kevin said... I did not have any albums in June of 1967 (Abbey Road was my first album) but I do have fond memories of being at the public pool and hanging around the jukebox enjoying the music.

Rita said... When I first heard 'Lovely Rita', I thought, "Finally! A song for ME!" After all the Carrie Anns, Glorias & Renees the song made me feel like royalty. Still wonder how I'd look in that green uniform!

Dave said... I bought about 8 copies to give as gifts to friends & family because I was convinced it was the greatest album ever, although Pet Sounds.........

Mike said... I wasn't a Beatles fan when they came out in '64 and '65, but as they experimented more I began to like them. Sgt Peppers made me a fan.

Cochise said... Totally mesmerized by the cover-awwhh the cover! Anyway, can't remember the radio playing it...must not have had FM back then. Alter-egos transcend well.

Steve said... In my then-11-year-old mind, I thought "Lucy In the Sky w/Diamonds" had something to do with the Lucy in the "Peanuts" comic strip. I still hear something different every time I play this album

Peggy said... I too had never heard anything like Sgt P when it first came out. I still have every Beatle album, but the 2 that stand out for me are that one and the White album. So inventive, Sgt Pepper put the Beatles on a whole new level musically. And I just love the fact that on an archaeological dig in 1974 a 3 million yr old female skeleton was named Lucy after "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds." How cool is that?

RANDY said... 1967 was a great year for music but on SEPT 15TH 2007 REO GAVE A GREAT CONCERT AT NIU; THEY SOUNDED BETTER IN 2007 THAN EVER BEFORE; IT WAS AN A PLUS CONCERT !!!
