Rainforest Adventure Exhibit at Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum
From November 8 - Spring of 2015 the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum is presenting the family-friendly temporary exhibit Rainforest Adventure. It introduces guests to the beauty and diversity of rainforests, and highlights how these distant ecosystems are influenced by our choices. Complete with five different species of live animals: Blue-throated Macaw (of which only 350-400 remain in the wild), Violaceous-Turaco, Green Tree Python, Powder Blue Poison Dart Frogs and Spectacled Caiman. Humane Society Calumet Area's Moraine Ridge Wildlife Rehabilitation Center (MRWRC) will host a meet and greet Dec. 20 from 9 to 11 a.m. The public is invited to visit the center located at 570 N. 450 E., Valparaiso and learn more about MRWRC's work rehabilitating animals. 'A Christmas Story' Comes Home Exhibit at Indiana Welcome Center
This holiday season, the 'A Christmas Story' Comes Home exhibit, presented in collaboration with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, will be on display from Nov. 8, 2014 until Jan. 4, 2015 in the W.F. Wellman Exhibit Hall. The design takes visitors to the streets of downtown Hohman, a fictional Indiana town which was a disguise for Jean Shepherd's hometown Hammond. As part of the exhibit, the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond will feature six animated display scenes from 'A Christmas Story.' The Indiana Welcome Center is located at the intersection of I-80/94 and Kennedy Avenue South in Hammond; only 30 minutes from downtown Chicago and two hours north of Indianapolis.

Elmhurst Art Museum Acquires Monika Wulfers' Light Installation
Five Equal Lines, not a pentagon, an important site-specific light installation by German-American artist Monika Wulfers, was purchased by Elmhurst Art Museum earlier this month. The work is a significant example of Wulfer's large-scale neon 'drawings' which fills the glass-walled lobby of the Museum from floor to ceiling and is visible from adjacent Wilder Park. The work will be reintroduced to the community on Friday, December 19th from 3 to 7 PM at the Museum's 3rd annual Winter Solstice Celebration and remain on view until Sunday, January 11, 2015.
