Don Henley
Drummers don't usually rank among the leading creative forces in rock bands, but The Eagles' Don Henley is a notable counter-example. The Eagles got their start in L.A. in the late '60s when Glenn Frey asked the Texas-born Henley to join what was then Linda Ronstadt's backing band. The two went on to a prolific songwriting partnership and were responsible, individually and together, for many Eagles hits (In 2000, they were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame). It was Frey whose budding solo career officially broke up The Eagles in 1982, but while Henley got off to a later start (with "Dirty Laundry," a rant fueled by media obsession with his personal transgressions), he's had by far the most successful solo career of all the bandmembers over the years. His albums Building the Perfect Beast (1984) and The End of the Innocence both sold multiple millions of copies and launched several hit singles apiece. Henley has continued to work on solo projects while also participating in the sporadic Eagles reunion tours and the band's long-awaited new studio album.
