Mountain
Enjoying a short-lived but highly successful three years together, the hard rock band Mountain formed in 1969 and quickly became a rock music legacy. The initial band lineup included guitarist Leslie West, Cream producer/bassist Felix Pappalardi, keyboardist Steve Knight, and drummer N.D. Smart, who was replaced by Craig Laing just months later. Mountain performed their fourth concert ever at Woodstock, and their debut album Mountain Climbing! went gold in 1970. The following year Mountain recorded an equally successful album entitled Nantucket Sleighride, and finished their recording career with Mountain Live before breaking up. The greatest compliment a musician can receive is to inspire new generations of musicians. Mountain left their legacy on rock music forever with West's tone and feel on the guitar, Knight's keyboard textures, Felix's production style along with the heavy double-bass beats put forth by Laing. Together they produced some of the best and most memorable rock tunes ever including Mississippi Queen, Nantucket Sleighride, and Never In My Life.
