Peter Frampton

The epochal 1976 album Frampton Comes Alive, a live recording the guitarist made at San Francisco's famed Winterland, paved the way for generations of stadium-rockers. Its catchy guitar lines, playful experimentation with effects pedals, and Frampton's clear ability to work the crowd launched numerous hit singles and made the multi-platinum LP the best-selling live rock album of its time. The British musician was already a veteran of several respectable outfits, most recently Humble Pie, when Alive propelled him to superstar status, and never quite reached that peak again. A near-fatal car accident in 1978 and the subsequent recovery process made it all the more difficult to regain momentum. Since then Frampton has continued to tour and record periodically, though a planned '90s reunion with Humble Pie bandmate Steve Marriott fell apart when Marriott was killed in a fire.
