Bob Seger

It's entirely fitting that Bob Seger's "Like a Rock" has for many years been the theme song of Chevy truck commercials. The Michigan native's blend of hard-driving rock and honest workingman's blues, eventually expanding into a heart-throbbing array of gruff, tender ballads, led to one blockbuster album after another throughout the '70s and '80s. Seger's original group, the Bob Seger System, with future Eagle Glenn Frey on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, had its first hit single in 1968 with "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" and the album of the same name, but failed to repeat the success in later releases. Seger worked with various other musicians before putting together the legendary Silver Bullet Band (Alto Reed on saxophone, Drew Abbott on guitar, Robyn Robbins on keyboards, Chris Campbell on bass, and Charlie Allen Martin on drums) and recording 1975's Beautiful Loser. The tour for that album produced the live double album Live Bullet, the first of many multi-platinum albums. Seger recorded less frequently through the late '80s and early '90s; his most recent release is 1995's It's a Mystery.
