Tom Petty

Southerners Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers first arrived on the scene during the punk days of the late '70s with a unique blend of rootsy, guitar-heavy rock and vocals that recalled Neil Young, The Byrds, and Bob Dylan. Over the years they've managed the rare achievement of retaining both popularity and integrity, as reflected anew in their 2002 release, The Last DJ. Singer/songwriter/guitarist Petty has always stuck to his artistic roots (and had a few epic battles with record companies), while incorporating innovative influences and embracing such emerging trends as the rock video and making them his own. Outside the Heartbreakers, he's also collaborated with artists including Dylan, Stevie Nicks, and the Traveling Wilburys (Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne).
