America
Launched in London in 1970 by Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek, and Gerry Beckley, three U.S. Air Force brats whose fathers were stationed in the UK, America topped the charts in 1972 with their single, "A Horse with No Name." Their folky soft-rock sound and polished harmonies drew comparisons to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. George Martin, The Beatles' legendary producer, helmed several of their albums, and hit followed hit for several years. In 1977 Peek left the group to pursue a career in Christian music, but Beckley and Bunnell still record and tour as America.
