Ringo Starr
Brought in in 1962 to replace drummer Pete Best, Ringo Starr (born Richard Starkey) joined The Beatles just as their career began to take off. His goofy charm was a big part of the band's stage presence, and a focal point of their much-acclaimed movies "A Hard Day's Night" and "Help!" As The Beatles broke up, Starr focused on his acting career, appearing in first in "Candy" and "The Magic Christian," then in a succession of box-office bombs such as "200 Motels" and "Caveman." Years of extravagant living and alcoholism eventually took their toll, but Starr rebounded in the '90s with a succession of "All-Starr Bands," a changing cast of veteran musicians with whom he successfully toured the U.S. several times. He continues to record and tour occasionally.
