Van Morrison
Vocalist, sax player, and charismatic performer Van Morrison has defied categorization since the beginning of his career in the early '60s. Still in his teens when he founded Them and wrote the perennial classic "Gloria," Belfast native Morrison has spent the subsequent decades in steadfast allegiance to his muse, leading him through some pretty varied landscapes, both physical (he spends long periods in both Ireland and the U.S.) and stylistic (mystical quest, R&B revue, Irish folk, and lounge music, to name but a few). He's notable for lengthy periods out of the limelight followed by new bursts of creative activity. While his greatest commercial success came in the late '60s and early '70s, he retains a passionate loyal following who are happy to be along on his ongoing explorations.
