Jackson Browne
Jackson Browne's albums of the '70s pioneered and still epitomize the sensitive singer/songwriter genre with their thoughtful, well-crafted and highly personal lyrics. He's also been successful in writing songs for other artists, perhaps most notably "Take It Easy," his collaboration with Glenn Frey, which became The Eagles' first hit. Part of the L.A. club scene in the late '60s, he was briefly a member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and worked with various other artists before releasing his self-titled first album in 1972. Each following album was a greater success, culminating with The Pretender in 1976; having attained considerable mainstream popularity, he then turned his energies to political protest songs and activities, notably the star-studded No Nukes concert. While his career suffered commercially as a result, he returned to his more introspective style in the '90s, regaining considerable popularity in the process. He continues to tour and record.
