Eagles
The Eagles -- Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner (the latter two replaced over the years by a succession of others) -- started out as Linda Ronstadt's backing band for her early tours and albums, but soon came to personify a distinctive country-rock style that sprang from the Los Angeles music scene in the late '60s. They officially broke up in 1982 and they haven't made a studio album since 1979's The Long Run, but according to the Recording Industry Association of America, Eagles: Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 and Hotel California are among the top 10 best-selling albums of all time. The band reunited in 1994 for a wildly successful tour in support of the multi-platinum Hell Freezes Over, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
