Poco

By the time the Buffalo Springfield's Last Time Around was in the works, Stephen Stills and Neil Young had already bailed for other projects, eventually leaving surviving members Richie Furay and Jim Messina to finish the album. In the wake of the Springfield's collapse, Furay and Messina went on to launch a new band, Pogo (soon changed to Poco due to legal issues with the comic strip's creator), which became one of the first and most long-lived groups in country-rock. They were noteworthy for a veritable revolving door in the personnel department -- Furay eventually left to join ex-Byrd Chris Hillman and J.D. Souther in the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band, Messina had a spectacularly successful pop duo with Kenny Loggins, and Timothy B. Schmit, who first replaced Randy Meisner in Poco, went on to follow him in The Eagles. In later years, Poco have often reunited in various configurations to tour and record.
