Among the biggest hitmakers in '70s rock, Ambrosia were an L.A.-based quartet -- guitarist/vocalist David Pack, bassist/vocalist Joe Puerta, keyboardist Christopher North, and drummer Burleigh Drummond -- who came up with a trademark mix of pop-rock and orchestral sound. Indeed, when L.A. Philharmonic conductor Zubin Mehta discovered them and featured them in a concert in 1971, it seemed that they were on the road to the big time.

That took a little longer, though, and it wasn't till 1975 that they got a record deal. Their self-titled first album had two hit singles, including "Holding on to Yesterday," which they followed with a cover version of The Beatles' "Magical Mystery Tour." After North left the band in 1978 just before they had their biggest hits, "How Much I Feel" and "Biggest Part of Me."

By the early '80s, though, tastes had changed, their popularity waned, and the band broke up.
